Juan Campodónico
Winner of four Latin Grammy Awards, the Argentine Carlos Gardel Award and several Graffiti Awards in Uruguay for his musical work, as well as several gold and platinum records. He was nominated for the American Grammy and the MTV Europe Awards.
Juan Campodónico is a Uruguayan musician, composer and producer. His name appears in dozens of influential musical projects including the creation of Bajofondo, together with Gustavo Santaolalla (musical project of which he is a member, producer and composer), Campo (his most recent group project) and Peyote Asesino. He has also produced albums by Jorge Drexler, Luciano Supervielle, El Cuarteto de Nos, Ximena Sariñana, Santullo, La Vela Puerca and No Te Va a Gustar among others.
He has won four Latin Grammy Awards, the Argentine Carlos Gardel Award and several Graffiti Awards in Uruguay for his musical work, as well as several gold and platinum records. He was nominated for an American Grammy and MTV Europe Awards.
Influenced by candombe (of Afro-Uruguayan origin), tango and milonga, music that represents the great mix of cultures that took place in the region, Juan integrates these sounds in a unique way and has defined new forms that rescue gestures and integrate these musical traditions.
The mixture of past and present, of tradition and contemporaneity in his production has given a timeless characteristic to his music that connects with the cultural richness of Latin America and projects it to a search for new styles and forms of his own, with identity and historical sense.
