Competitive advantages of citrus production in Uruguay

• Natural conditions: Uruguay’s temperate climate enables the early ripening of citrus fruits, while its position in the Southern hemisphere allows it to supply European and other markets in the north when they are not in the harvesting season.
• Strict health program: agreed and audited annually by APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service).
• Innovation and development: the national production is supported by four fundamental pillars as international insertion, national program of certification of citrus plants, research and development; and social sustainability.
• Food security: Uruguay has developed advanced traceability systems that guarantee the natural and safe origin of its citrus fruits. 100% of the plantations of this fruit are georeferenced.
• Compliance with international standards: also has a strict health program agreed and audited annually by APHIS (Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service).
