Uruguay XXI participated for the second consecutive year in the Food Tech Summit & Expo in Mexico, the leading event for ingredients, additives, solutions, and packaging for the food and beverage industry in Latin America. This platform provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen Uruguay's positioning as a hub for sustainable production, regional distribution, trade, and innovation in the food sector.

In this edition, the agency was joined by the company Lactosan and by Fernando Pereda, the first secretary and head of economic-commercial affairs at the Embassy of Uruguay in Mexico.

Uruguay is positioned as an attractive investment destination for the food and ingredient sector due to its competitiveness in production chains. The excellence in primary and first transformation chains allows for high-quality production. Additionally, the country offers significant tax incentives, attracting large companies. Its strategic location facilitates access to a market of 400 million people, while economic and legal stability generates trust among investors and businesses choosing to establish themselves in the country. Major corporations like PepsiCo, Nestlé, and Lactosan have capitalized on these attributes to strengthen their presence in the region.

Uruguay's value proposition as a regional platform for the food and ingredient industry is based on its competitiveness and geographical advantages. Supply chains benefit from access to imported raw materials without tariffs, enhancing the country’s production and export capacity. Lactosan, for instance, chose Uruguay as its base in the Americas, highlighting its political and economic stability, as well as its strategic proximity to Latin American markets.

Coffee and cocoa exports are also on the rise, solidifying Uruguay as a regional food hub. The investment promotion regime and the Temporary Admission regime allow companies to set up in the country, import raw materials, process them, and then export without import taxes.

Uruguay XXI’s participation in the Food Tech Summit & Expo in Mexico emphasizes the country's strengths as a reliable and competitive food supplier in the international market. The combination of natural resources, efficiency in agricultural production, technological innovation capability, and trade openness solidifies Uruguay's reputation as a key player in regional and global supply chains in the food sector.
