The prestigious Mayo Clinic, an organization committed to innovation in clinical practice, education, and research, opened a patient information office in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, to advise patients, their families, referring physicians and insurance companies, and brokers.

This office joins several worldwide offices established to serve people interested in connecting with Mayo Clinic.

The staff at the Montevideo office will help patients, their families, and referring physicians schedule appointments at Mayo Clinic locations in Rochester, Minnesota, Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona, Jacksonville, Florida, and Mayo Clinic Healthcare in London, the organization says on its website.

“Uruguay is an example of political and economic stability, has one of the most robust healthcare systems in the region, and is, therefore, an area in which we will complement each other very well,” said Mayo Clinic’s executive medical director, Jorge Pascual, one of the leaders in pulmonology in the southern United States, according to the newspaper El Observador.

“We are pleased to add an office in Montevideo to our services for international patients,” said Dr. Pascual. “These services are part of Mayo Clinic’s work to provide an unparalleled patient experience and to serve as a resource for patients and healthcare organizations worldwide,” he added.

The office staff will assist patients with travel, lodging, billing, and insurance arrangements; provide general guidance about Mayo Clinic; facilitate Mayo Clinic’s review of medical records; and coordinate future medical appointments. The office does not provide medical care.

Newsweek ranks Mayo Clinic the best hospital in the world and number one among U.S. hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. In 2022, Mayo served more than 1.4 million patients from every U.S. state and approximately 130 countries.
