Uruguay Boosts International Presence Ahead of Expo Osaka 2025
Gearing up for the Universal Exposition after a successful showing at the Supermarkets Trade Show in Japan

As the Osaka Expo 2025 approaches, Uruguay prepares by participating in key international events to position itself as a relevant player in global trade and innovation. One of the most recent events, which marks the road to this exhibition, was the National Meat Institute (INAC) ’s participation in the Supermarkets Trade Show, held in Japan from February 12 to 14.
This event, which brought together more than 3,800 exhibitors worldwide, was an excellent platform for Uruguay to showcase the best of its meat industry. Japan is a key market for Uruguayan beef, representing this product’s fifth-largest global importer. Despite the higher import tariffs faced by Uruguayan products compared to competitors such as Australia and the United States, Uruguay’s beef exports to Japan continue to grow at an annual rate of 20%. In particular, products such as beef tongues, which are priced higher than in other markets, have been a resounding success, with Japan as the leading destination for these exports.
With the high quality and traceability of Uruguayan products, together with a sustainable and environmentally responsible production model, Uruguay has managed to position itself as a reliable and premium supplier in demanding markets such as Japan, which prioritize quality, food safety, and transparency in production processes. Compliance with strict quality standards has enabled Uruguay to gain the trust of Japanese consumers and importers. Uruguayan meat is seen as a value-added option, not only for its flavor and quality but also for the guarantees of its traceability and the commitment to sustainability in each link of the production chain.
At the 72-square-meter stand, INAC offered tastings of cuts such as tenderloin and ribeye steak, allowing visitors to enjoy the quality of Uruguayan meat and learn more about the advantages of this constantly growing sector. The meeting was attended by authorities such as the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Nicolás Albertoni, who took the opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties with Japan.
The Expo Osaka 2025, which will open its doors in April, will continue these efforts, allowing Uruguay to expand its international presence and attract investment in strategic sectors such as technology, sustainability, livestock, and culture. With the support of Uruguay XXI and under the direction of Benjamín Liberoff as commissioner, Uruguay will seek to take advantage of this global platform to promote its image as a leader in innovation in South America. INAC and the sector brand Uruguay Beef will accompany the country’s participation.
The Uruguay pavilion at Expo Osaka will showcase the best of the country, from sustainable food production to technological solutions that contribute to a greener future. Participation in this exhibition not only aims to promote trade and investment but also to strengthen Uruguay’s image as a benchmark in the Sustainable Development Goals, positioning itself as a strategic partner in creating solutions to global challenges.
