Uruguay made an excellent impression at the first edition of Gamescom Latam, which took place at the end of June in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The Uruguayan presence, organized by Uruguay XXI and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU) under the sector brand Uruguay Video Games, in collaboration with the Uruguayan Chamber of Video Game Developers (CAVI), stood out with a country stand. The delegation included six video game development studios and the e-sports tournament platform Blast.gg.

This participation highlighted the growth and relevance of the video game sector in Uruguay, which has a strong presence on the global scene.

The studios that participated were Pi0h1, Ironhide, Trágico Media, Team Brunomir, Null Monkey Exception, and Isoca Games, representing regions of the country such as Colonia, Maldonado, Tacuarembó, and Canelones.

Three Uruguayan games were nominated in international and regional categories:
- JunkWorld by Ironhide Game Studio competed for Best Mobile Game in the World against competitors from Russia, Brazil, Germany, Denmark, and India.
- Tourist Trap by Trágico Media and Wings of Endless by Isoca Games were nominated for Best Latam Game. Tourist Trap won the National Video Game Contest of Uruguay (CONAVI) in 2022, which allowed it, with support from Uruguay XXI, to attend the Games Developers Conference (GDC) in 2023. Wings of Endless received a special mention at Gamescom, the only one given by the jury, a great achievement for Uruguay at the first edition of this meeting in Latin America.

Diego Méndez from Isoca Games expressed, “It is something we did not expect. There were very good games in the category. It brings us much joy and responsibility since the game is not yet finished, and we want the final result to live up to the expectations.”

The event also provided an enriching experience for the Uruguayan developers. Méndez said, “It was our first participation in such an event. The most gratifying part was seeing so many people playing the game, which is difficult to achieve before its launch.”

Among hundreds of nominations, the chosen games from Uruguay were showcased during Gamescom Latam, exhibiting the talent and creativity of the Uruguayan video game industry on an international stage.
