On Monday, April 14 at 14:00 Japanese time, Uruguay officially inaugurated its stand at the Universal Expo Osaka 2025. It is an 80 square meter space that presents the main national attributes through a proposal based on innovation, sustainability and interactive design.
The country's stand was built with ecological materials, including reused wood, natural plants and open spaces, which make up an immersive experience connected to each element of the space. It has meeting rooms, dynamic and interactive screens, a wine bar with national wines and areas to promote investments, exports and Uruguay's sustainability strategy. The stand stands out for the display of Uruguayan products, such as wool garments, which capture the attention of visitors.
Under the slogan “Designing the Society of the Future for Our Lives”, the official inauguration was in charge of Uruguay's curator at Expo Osaka, Benjamin Liberoff, and the manager of Marca País Uruguay, Larissa Perdomo, together with the team representing the country at the fair.
During the ceremony, Liberoff said: “We formally opened a space that seeks to be representative of a country of 3.5 million inhabitants that, in a world of uncertainty, represents stable democracy, legal certainty for investors and seeks to advance towards the Sustainable Goals of the United Nations Organization, as invited by the motto of this exhibition”.
The opening was attended by Japanese authorities, representatives of Expo Osaka 2025, international delegations -including Latin American delegations- and the general public, who participated in the tasting of national wines and in the tour of the stand. Approximately 70 people visited the stand during the inauguration. The Uruguayan wines, especially the Albariño, were a success and received a great acceptance by the Japanese public. Many guests expressed their surprise at the quality of the wines.
The products and services exhibited reflect attributes such as quality, sustainable management and production, food safety and production traceability. In the agro-industrial sector, the natural products presented incorporate decades of work in genetic improvement, prioritizing environmentally friendly production.
With respect to its energy matrix, Uruguay reaches 99% of generation from renewable sources, as part of a development strategy based on innovation and permanent research. Due to its location and business conditions, the country is projected as a center of operations with access to regional and global markets, reflected in an increase in foreign reinvestment.
The Universal Expo is held every five years in different countries and for its 2025 edition projects the visit of more than 30 million people during the six months of the exhibition. The proposal calls on nations to present solutions to major contemporary challenges through attractive experiences for the public.
Uruguay's participation in Expo Osaka takes place in a context of more than 100 years of bilateral cooperation with Japan, a link that strengthens Uruguay's presence in this edition of the fair and aims at the continuity and expansion of that relationship.
The presence of our country at the fair is the result of the joint work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Uruguay XXI and various public and private institutions, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Bank of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (BROU), the National Institute of Viticulture (INAVI), the National Meat Institute (INAC) -through its sectoral brand Uruguay Beef-, the Uruguayan Agency for International Cooperation (AUCI), the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, the Ministry of Tourism, the Uruguayan-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Universidad de la República and Ceibal.
