The Uruguayan Parliament has unanimously approved the country's accession to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), marking a significant milestone in Uruguay's global strategy. By joining the PCT, Uruguay aims to enhance its international standing and create new avenues for investors and entrepreneurs in knowledge-based sectors and life sciences.

Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining, Elisa Facio, highlighted the treaty's importance, stating, "Uruguay's accession to the PCT underscores our commitment to fostering innovation and technological development. This move provides our inventors with essential tools to thrive in an increasingly competitive and globalized economy."

First and foremost, access to the PCT will streamline the international patent protection process, providing security and support to those developing innovations in areas such as biotechnology, healthcare, information technology, and other knowledge-based sectors. This will foster investment in research and development, driving the creation of new companies and the growth of the national innovation ecosystem.

Additionally, joining the PCT enhances Uruguay's position on the international stage as an attractive destination for innovation investment. By being part of this global patent protection network, our country reaffirms its status as a reliable and competitive partner for innovative companies and entrepreneurs looking to expand their activities in Latin America and beyond.

For investors, PCT access means increased legal security and simplification of procedures related to protecting their intangible assets in multiple countries. This reduces costs and time, making investment in high-impact projects in strategically important sectors for Uruguay's economic and social development more attractive.

In summary, Uruguay's integration into the PCT represents a unique opportunity to drive innovation, economic growth, and competitiveness in the global arena.
