Uruguay is establishing itself as a key player in the video game industry, and its presence at the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in California is a testament to its growing influence. Backed by Uruguay XXI, the country’s investment and export promotion agency, and the Uruguayan Video Game Chamber (CAVI), a delegation of 13 top-tier studios will showcase their talent at this global event, aiming to expand their reach and establish key international partnerships.

The country’s participation in GDC is not a coincidence. With over 60 game development studios, Uruguay has built a strong and innovative ecosystem, supported by a robust infrastructure and institutional backing that has fueled the industry’s continuous growth. This year, the Uruguay Video Games pavilion will highlight the latest national game projects and serve as a networking hub, facilitating meetings with publishers and investors eager to tap into Latin America’s rising gaming market.

A High-Caliber Delegation

Pomelo Games, one of Uruguay’s leading game studios, has made a name for itself with its successful title Outlanders, which has captivated players worldwide. Alongside Pomelo, Ironhide Game Studio stands as another top-tier Uruguayan developer, best known for its Kingdom Rush saga, a globally recognized series that has topped mobile store charts and received multiple international awards.

Isoca Games, winner of the prestigious Level UY award from Uruguay XXI and CAVI, will present Wings of Endless, an exciting title currently being ported to consoles for a 2025 release. For the first time, a cooperative video game studio, Entrevero, will participate, marking a significant milestone in Uruguay’s industry. Flow Labs, a software factory exploring the gaming sector, also underscores the growing interest from other industries in the video game market.

In addition to these major players, the Uruguayan delegation includes ABYA, Dubious Loop, Great Oak Games, Hipocampo, Isoca Games, Luminara Game Studio, Mucho Games, Rubber Duck Games, and Team Brunomir (virtual participant). Each studio brings a unique vision and innovative projects, further showcasing the diversity and strength of Uruguay’s gaming industry.

Industry leader Laia Barboza, known as Laia Bee, co-founder of Pincer Games and a global advocate for diversity in gaming, will once again moderate the One Reason To Be panel, a discussion focused on inclusivity and representation in the industry.

Uruguay’s rise in the global gaming industry is no accident. Between 2013 and 2020, the number of video game companies in the country doubled, attracting major international players such as Etermax, Globant, Endava, and Jam City, all of whom have established operations in Uruguay due to their competitive advantages.

With creativity and innovation at its core, Uruguay is positioning itself as a video game powerhouse in Latin America. Its participation in GDC 2025 cements its growing reputation and opens doors for new collaborations and opportunities, reinforcing its status as a thriving hub for video game development.
