With a presentation at the Executive Tower Auditorium, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Uruguay XXI announced the details of Uruguay's participation in the Osaka World Expo 2025, a crucial event to be held from April 13 to October 13 in the Japanese city. Under the theme “Designing the Future Society for Our Lives,” this global expo will seek to inspire and promote sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges.

The event was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Omar Paganini, the Japanese Ambassador to Uruguay, Hideki Asari, and the executive director of Uruguay XXI and curator of Uruguay at Expo Osaka, Sebastián Risso. During the presentation, the strategy that Uruguay will implement to stand out in this international event, which will bring together approximately 28 million visitors and will include the participation of 150 countries and 25 international organizations, was outlined.

“A Universal Exposition transcends the merely economic objectives of trade fairs; it is an event of international character that serves as a space to highlight the innovations that our country has before the world,” said Minister Paganini. He also highlighted that “this edition is framed within the recent commemoration of the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Japan, which further strengthens the bond between our countries”.

For his part, Ambassador Asari expressed his satisfaction with Uruguay's participation. “It will be an excellent opportunity for Uruguay to underline its commitment to the international population and the search for innovative solutions to global challenges.” He also highlighted that the event will allow showcasing “the business opportunities that Uruguay offers, from agriculture and the ICT sector to renewable energies.”

Sebastián Risso detailed the specific plans for Uruguay's pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, which will be designed with sustainable materials and will offer interactive spaces such as meeting rooms, a wine bar with Uruguayan wines and touch screens to access detailed information about the country.

In addition, he invited both the public and private sectors to join this initiative, highlighting the unique opportunity it represents for Uruguayan companies to showcase themselves to a global audience. “It is a very good showcase to showcase themselves. Companies that want to join can contact uruguayinexpoosaka@uruguayxxi.gub.uy,” he said.

Uruguay will project at Expo Osaka its strengths as a hub of innovation and technology in South America, with an emphasis on sectors such as sustainable agricultural production, tourism and digital transformation. In addition, it will present itself as a reliable partner for building global public goods, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. “The theme of the Expo will allow Uruguay to showcase its qualities as an innovation and technology hub in South America,” said Paganini.
