During the CAIU Day event held at Zonamerica by the Chamber of Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers of Uruguay, Uruguay XXI’s Investment Projects Manager, Alvaro Brunini, highlighted the confidence that both international agencies and the private sector place in Uruguay for investment in stock markets and the real economy. This intervention was part of the presentation of the report Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers: Why Uruguay for Financial Advisory Services, prepared by the agency’s Competitive Intelligence Management.

The report highlights why Uruguay is an attractive destination for financial services and indicates that investment advisory and management are key to the country’s economic development. Investment advisors provide recommendations to individuals and companies, helping them select appropriate financial products according to their risk profile. In turn, portfolio managers actively manage investments, seeking to maximize returns and diversify risks, playing a central role in financial planning.

According to data from Uruguay XXI and the Central Bank of Uruguay, 105 investment advisors and 69 portfolio managers were registered in 2023. Together, they managed more than US$37 billion in investments, with almost 90% of these amounts coming from foreign clients.

The report also reveals that 52% of investment advisors and 80% of portfolio managers operate from free trade zones. These financial agents offer a wide range of products designed to optimize investments and protect their clients’ capital, thus contributing to the development of the capital market.

Between 2020 and 2023, the total amount of investments under management varied, with a drop in 2022 but a strong recovery of 29% in 2023. This growth reflects the renewed confidence in Uruguay as a platform for financial services, both by domestic and international investors.

Brunini also presented Uruguay XXI’s Investment Projects Portfolio, which operates through a digital portal that connects companies seeking investment with investors abroad. Visit the Investment Projects Portfolio here.

He also highlighted Uruguay’s strengths as an investment destination based on its reliability, ease of doing business, and talent.
