Every March 8, the world commemorates International Women’s Day, which invites us to reflect on the progress made regarding gender equality and the challenges that remain. In this context, Uruguay XXI reaffirms its commitment to promoting opportunities for women in international business.

The agency works to boost the export capacity and competitiveness of Uruguayan companies, promote the country as an attractive destination for productive investment, and promote the Uruguay country brand. It does this through tools and programs that prioritize women-led companies. This effort is aligned with its strategy of integrating ESG (environmental, social, and governance) criteria into its initiatives.
The Más Comercio (More Trade) program, one of the agency’s key initiatives to bring training to exporters in all corners of the country, has significantly impacted the inclusion of women in the internationalization process. By the end of its 2024 edition, 65% of the personalized mentoring was aimed at women entrepreneurs, reaffirming the commitment to equal access to training and advice opportunities for export growth.

Likewise, Marca País’s licensing under LSQA certification includes women-led companies among its selection criteria, reinforcing the value of diversity and equity in the international projection of Uruguay’s image.

Uruguay XXI’s commitment to gender equity is also reflected in its organizational structure. With 56% of its workforce comprising women and 58% of leadership positions held by them, the agency is an example of female inclusion. In this vein, economist Mariana Ferreira, former manager of Competitive Intelligence at the agency, took office as executive director, consolidating female leadership in managing key strategies for the country’s economic development.

In addition, regarding salaries, Uruguay XXI promotes parity, focusing on the development of talent and the growth of individuals and eliminating the gender pay gap.

Through these actions, Uruguay XXI reaffirms its commitment to gender equality and the strengthening of women’s role in foreign trade, contributing to a more inclusive and competitive economy.
