Uruguayan design acclaimed by international press

Uruguay XXI supports and will accompany the exhibitions that Uruguayan designers will carry out at the London Design Festival, where two exhibitions will take place.The exhibition 'Invisible Threads', an exhibition inspired by the work of architect Julio Vilamajó will be presented From September 17 to October 27, at the Aram Gallery. Meanwhile, the exhibition "Uruguay, A Natural Collective" will be presented at London's largest interior design fair, Designjunction, from the 20th to the 23rd of September.

The British media showed interest in these works and praised them in their publications. Azure Magazine highlighted the exhibition "Invisible Threads" as one of the seven "must-see" exhibitions at the London Design Festival 2018.

"London-based designer Matteo Fogale invited seven studios from his native Montevideo to create pieces inspired by the drawings of Julio Vilamajó Echaniz, Uruguay’s most celebrated modernist architect.The result is a surprisingly cohesive collection of furniture, lighting and home accessories that reimagine Vilamajó’s work through each designer’s lens" the publication said.

The online magazine Dezeen, meanwhile, noted that "this show will display seven furniture pieces designed in collaboration with studios from Montevideo (...) Matteo Fogale dug into the archives of the carpenters who made Vilamajó's furniture for inspiration, and photos and original drawings of these will be displayed alongside. Research and archive material, including details about the house the architect build for himself in 1930, from the Faculty of Architecture's archives in Montevideo, will also be on display".

Likewise, the site specialized in design Sight Unseen published a note that expresses the opportunity opened with these samples to meet new talents from a country that has not been much explored by the British market.

The publications Falstaff and Damn Magazine also made a review of what will be presented, while Frame web invited to "keep an eye out for Uruguay" at the London Design Festival and deepened in an interview with Fogale on the characteristics of the pieces to be exhibited and the design in Uruguay, which can be read here.

The studios participating in "Invisible Threads" are Estudio Diario, Menini-Nicola, Carolina Palombo Píriz, Claudio Sibille, Muar, CLARO and Rafael Antía. Sámago, Estudio Tosca and Izzi Design will join Designjunction.

These design samples, which are made possible thanks to the support of the Uruguayan Embassy in London and the organization of the Uruguayan Chamber of Design (CDU) and Uruguay XXI, aims to ensure Uruguay's permanent place on the world design stage.
