Uruguayan Fashion Makes its Mark at New York’s Brand Assembly

With its rich craftsmanship, sustainable practices, and innovative designs, Uruguayan fashion is ready to make an impact on one of the industry’s most prestigious platforms. From February 17 to 19, six standout brands from Uruguay will present their collections at Brand Assembly in New York City, a curated trade show that attracts over 250 contemporary brands and more than 1,000 global buyers.

This initiative is spearheaded by Uruguay XXI, Uruguay’s national trade and investment promotion agency, under the collective banner URUGUAY COLLECTIVE. Designed to highlight the creativity and sustainability of Uruguayan fashion, URUGUAY COLLECTIVE aims to position the country’s design industry as a key player in the global market.

The six participating brands—Celmo, Savia, Rosa Rosa, Coppelia, Pastiche, and Sierra Mora—represent a diverse yet cohesive vision of fashion that seamlessly blends local heritage with global trends. From hand-stitched leather shoes and luxurious linen garments to playful, artisan-crafted apparel, these brands share a commitment to ethical production and sustainability.

Uruguayan fashion is rooted in the use of premium, locally sourced materials such as wool and leather. These natural resources, combined with innovative design and ethical production practices, give the country’s fashion industry a distinctive edge. Uruguay XXI has been instrumental in the internationalization of Uruguayan fashion since 2015. By facilitating participation in major events such as Capsule, Coterie and Designers & Agents in New York, and now Brand Assembly, the agency has enabled local designers to connect with key players in the fashion industry. Additionally, initiatives such as business matchmaking events and the renowned “wool tours” have showcased Uruguay’s globally recognized wool industry, which combines artisanal expertise with cutting-edge technology and sustainability practices.

Beyond export promotion, Uruguay XXI provides strategic support to local brands, tailoring its initiatives to meet the specific needs of the sector.
