Uruguay will host the sixteenth edition of Ventana Sur, Latin America’s leading audiovisual market, from December 2 to 6, 2024, in Montevideo. This is a historic milestone as it will be the first time this prestigious event will be held outside Argentina, where it was launched in 2009.

The Marché du Film—Cannes Film Festival, the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts of Argentina (INCAA), and the Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency (ACAU) have reached an agreement to move Ventana Sur to Uruguay. This move underscores Uruguay’s growing influence as an audiovisual hub in Latin America, driven by sustained policies for the sector’s development, the international recognition of its artistic and technical talent, and its experience in producing national and international works.

The celebration of this edition in Uruguay will bring together key players in the international audiovisual industry and reinforce Uruguay’s position in the global audiovisual landscape, noted for its robust policies for the development of the sector and its recognition as a hub of artistic and technical talent.

Organized by the Marché du Film - the commercial branch of the Cannes Film Festival - and backed by INCAA’s in-depth knowledge of the Latin American market, Ventana Sur has consolidated its position as an essential platform for audiovisual professionals. Since its start in 2009, it has attracted more than 4,000 accredited participants annually, including over 250 buyers and sellers worldwide. Attendees representing major international networks and platforms participate in business conferences, pitch sessions, one-on-one meetings, round tables, and workshops, promoting international co-production, financing, and distribution of Latin American content.

The holding of Ventana Sur in Montevideo is a clear sign of Uruguay’s growing relevance in the global audiovisual industry, consolidating its place as an epicenter of creativity and professionalism in Latin America.
